STAndards-Based Measure of Proficiency (STAMP) Test
In the past (pre-COVID) first and second year language students have taken AVANT Assessment's proficiency tests in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, also known as STAMP.
Besides giving students some important information about their progress in the language, results from the STAMP can be used when seeking employment, applying for scholarships, or accessing credentials like the Global Seal of Biliteracy. (In 2019, for example, more than 250 earned the functional seal, which includes a registered certifcate that is recognized across N. America.)
Interested students can take a brief practice test so they'll know what each section of the STAMP is like. The speaking section of the test, which involves recording your responses to 3 different kinds of situations, can be a bit unnerving if you've never done that before.
Traditionally, all testing takes place during class time in McKenzie Hall computer labs and classrooms. No plan has been set yet for Winter or Spring 2021.
