Japanese Newsgroup Mailing Lists

Japanese newsgoups are the Japanese equivalent of Usenet News, and the two letters fj (meaning "from Japan") begin the name of each newsgroup. It is sometimes difficult to get a feed of Japanese newsgroups outside of Japan, and some people do not even have access to news reader software, so it has been made available as a mailing list. The e-mail address for subscribing and unsubscribing to Japanese newsgroups is as follows:

listserv@ntt-20.ntt.jp

Posting to Japanese newsgroups is performed by sending the article to the following e-mail address:

post2junet@nttlab.ntt.jp

It is important that the first line of the article ( not the subject line!) conforms to the following pattern (this is how the posting software knows which Japanese newsgroup to post the article to):

Newsgroups: newsgroup

A real-life example is as follows:

Newsgroups: fj.kanji

You then continue your message with the text of the article. The news posting software will remove the line containg Newsgroups: fj.kanji, and post the article to the appropriate Japanese newsgroup. A word of caution: although Newsgroups is plural, the news posting software recognizes only a single newsgroup name--posting to multiple Japanese newsgroups requires sending multiple e-mail messages.
