Netscape Socket Error Message

If you get a message that there is a socket error problem, please try clicking again several times before giving up. If it still doesn't work, try the suggestions below.

Message prompting for a username and password

If you get prompted for a username and password, please ignore it and go back and try to click the link to download again. The server is set up to require NO username or password for downloading, however for some reason people do occasionally get this message. If it still doesn't work, try the suggestions below.

Other Problems Downloading Fonts ...

If you are having trouble downloading fonts from our archive, here are some possible solutions:

Note: Be sure you have software (such as Winzip or Stuffit Expander) to "unstuff" or "unzip" the files once you get them - they come compressed!

  1. Try using an FTP client. At the moment we have two copies of the archives available. If one is down, try using the other. Once you have logged on, go to the fonts folder and look for the language and file you need. Mac font files usually end with .sit, Windows fonts with .zip.

      Address (host): ylcftp.uoregon.edu   or   learn.uoregon.edu
Username: "anonymous" (no quotes). Or leave blank.
Password: there is NO password, leave blank

If you do not have FTP software on your machine, try tucows.com - they even review and rate the software for you (e.g. five "cows" = highest rating)!

  2. Try using a different browser. We're still working on finding a flawless ftp server. Sometimes switching to Netscape if IE isn't working (or to IE if Netscape fails) can fix the problem.

  3. Try our backup archives. At the moment we have two copies of our archives. You can access the other archives with an ftp client (see above) or possibly with your browser by changing the address of the file to download from
    "ftp://ylcftp.uoregon.edu/fonts ... (etc.)"   to
    "ftp://learn.uoregon.edu/fonts ... (etc.)"

  4. Email us with your font requests. Tell us the language, font name (actual filename is most helpful!), and whether it is for a Mac or Windows machine. We will send the font(s) to you as an email attachment. Please Note: We can only send the fonts listed on our pages - those are the only ones we have!
    The address: ylc@darkwing.uoregon.edu
