Wolof

Wolof is a national language of Senegal, Gambia and Mauritania – all located in western Africa. It is the native language to the Wolof people who primarily live in Senegal as almost half of the total population. Contrary to many other Sub-Saharan African languages, Wolof is not a tonal language. This means that tone, or pitch, is not used to indicate meaning. There are around 10 million native speakers worldwide. Historically, Wolof has been written using the Arabic script, but due to colonization it has also adopted the Latin alphabet.
