Scholarships
Freeman International Scholarships for Study in Asia (University of Oregon Administered): Several scholarships are available to students who participate in a UO-sponsored study abroad program in East or Southeast Asia: China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam. Scholarships up to $7000 are available for year-long academic programs, up to $5000 for semester-long programs, and up to $3000 for summer programs. UO graduate or undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply. Recipients must satisfy a public service requirement upon their return to the UO.
Application deadlines: November 5 (for winter and spring programs) or February 5 (for summer, fall and academic year programs). These scholarships are contingent upon renewal of funds. Applications are available at the OIP Overseas Study Reception Desk or online at http://studyabroad.uoregon.edu/funds/forms.html. IIE Freeman – Asia Awards for Study in Asia: Supporting U.S. undergraduates to study in East and Southeast Asia, these awards provide $3000 for a summer program, $5000 for a semester program, and $7000 for an academic year program. Recipients must satisfy a public service requirement upon their return to the U.S. Applications must be completed online at http://www.iie.org/pgms/Freeman-ASIA before the stipulated deadline as your overseas program coordinator must submit a letter of support.
Application deadlines: March 1 (for summer programs), April 1 (for fall or academic year programs), and October 31 (for spring programs). Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit draft applications to OIP for review at least two weeks prior to the deadline.

The South East Asia Travel Studies Program has fall term programs for college graduates or seniors. More about cultural exploration than language studies, but it looks cooler than a lot of other programs. Programs in the U.S.
The East-West Center of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa is a non-degree granting educational institution that focuses on the study of some 60 countries and territories in an area encompassing Pakistan eastward through Asia to Japan, and from Australia across the Pacific to the United States. http://www.eastwestcenter.org//edu-sp.asp. The Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) is a consortium of fourteen North American educational institutions. The intensive summer language program covers the equivalent of one academic year of language study in eight weeks.
