Welcome to the Yamada Language Center!

We are the University's service and technology center for language teaching and learning.

Besides supporting teaching efforts in Romance Languages, East Asian Languages, German and Scandinavian, REESC, and the American English Institute, we're also the home for the World Languages Academy and the Selfstudy Language Program, two teaching programs focused on "less commonly taught languages".

Let us help you make your language teaching/learning more meaningful and productive.

That service is the noblest which is rendered for its own sake. --Mahatma Gandhi

New & Noteworthy

Check out the Fall course offerings. Orientation is Thursday, October 1st from 5-7 p.m. at YLC.
  • This Fall YLC is sponsoring monthly webinars for users of ANVILL 2.0, a web-based software tool designed to replace the traditional language lab.
  • IT Problems? The College of Arts and Sciences now provides desktop computer support and consulting to faculty, staff, and GTFs through CASIT. YLC is serving UO Humanities departments. Contact us.
  • Another important new affiliation for YLC is with the Wired Humanities Project. For more than a decade WHP has been at the forefront of digital humanities initiatives on campus, including a recently-awarded 2010 NEH Summer Institute to be held in Oaxaca, Mexico. We look forward to collaborating with them on outreach and technological innovation.
