Chinese Music--Traditional and Contemporary

Chinese Music has been made since the dawn of Chinese civilization with documents and artifacts providing evidence of a well-developed musical culture. Today, the music continues a rich traditional heritage in one aspect, while emerging into a more contemporary form at the same time. The presentation will introduce music played by traditional Chinese instruments, traditional Chinese opera and Chinese musical film, then followed by a introduction to contemporary Chinese music.

Bhangra and Bollywood Dance from India

Bhangra Folk Dance and Bollywood Movie dances. Learn simple, basic steps, info on culture, etc. Bhangra is a folk dance from Northern India. It is a celebration dance that started with farmers in Punjab celebrating a good harvest. The moves are energetic and rhythmic and music is fun and upbeat. SatPavan Khalsa has been teaching and performing for the past 20 years and currently teaches 9 classes a week in Eugene as well as performs with her group Eugene Bhangra Dance Group.
