Language Exchanges that Work

Setting up a virtual foreign language exchange isn't hard these days; making it engaging and a source for deeper learning is just as challenging as ever. For more than 5 years we've been offering our intermediate French students a speech-based opportunity to meet regularly with peers at Lyon II in France. We'll share what we've learned, pedagogically and technically, and look forward to hearing about what you're doing to make opportunities like these available to your students.

iBooks Author and Communicative Language Teaching

iBooks Author may or may not be great software for authoring foreign language textbooks, but it it's a wonderful tool to create media-rich, content-based units. Do you have Spanish heritage learners in your language classes? Are these classes mixed (L2 and heritage) or do you have specific classes to meet heritage learner needs? How can our UO Spanish Heritage Language (SHL) Program complement what you are already doing in high schools? We are currently in the second year of our program at the UO and are anxious to know more about our incoming students’ high school experiences. Korean Spicy Food 101

Hannah Arendt

Hannah Arendt was one of the most influential political theorists of the twentieth century. Born into a German-Jewish family, she was forced to leave Germany in 1933 and emigrated to the United States in 1941, where she held a number of academic positions until her death in 1975. The presentation will focus on her theories of judgment.
