
Note: You must first install Lame Audio Encoder to be able to save sound files in different formats. Scroll down for the installation guide if you haven't installed Lame Audio Encoder yet.
1. Go to the toolbar > File > Export...:

2. Name your file under Save As, select the save destination by clicking on Where, then click on Format to choose the sound format.
Once you are done, click on Save to save your file:

Installing Lame Audio Encoder
1. Download Lame Audio Encoder from the Audacity website [link opens in new window]:
2. Extract the zip file:

(Note: For Windows, you need a program such as WinRAR or 7zip to extract .zip files.)
3. Copy libmp3lame.dylib into the Libraries folder:

4. Go to toolbar and click on Audacity > Preferences.
5. Select Libraries and click on Locate... under MP3 Library and select libmp3lame.dylib.
If installation is successful, MP3 Library Version: MP3 export library not found will become LAME 3.98.2

6. You should now be able to save audio files in different formats using Audacity.
