Plugins

In order to use Blackboard features and course materials from the Virtual Language Lab, you are required to have certain plugins installed on your computer.  If you have not installed the plugins under Important Plugins, follow the instructions below.  (Note: The following instructions are for Mac OSX users.  For Windows, click the link below.)

To check which Plugins are installed on your browser:

You can check and update plugins installed on your computer through the following:

1) Open Firefox > Go to Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

             or

2) Go to Finder > Library > Internet Plug-ins

List of Important Plugins (for Mac OSX)

(Note: Plugins update frequently - the version shown above may be outdated.)

  • Java Applet Plug-in - Java plug-in allows you to run java applet on your web browser.  To get or update this plugin, run Apple Software Update.

 

  • QuickTime Plug-in - QuickTime Plug-in allows you to view QuickTime movies in your browser.  Some of the movies in the Virtual Language Lab require you to have this plug-in in order to stream videos.  QuickTime can usually be updated using Software Update.  If your quicktime plugins are not installed or are not working properly, go to the Apple QuickTime website and follow the on-screen instructions.   • Adobe Flash Player - ShockWave Flash plug-in allows you to view Flash files.  This plug-in is important since almost all the audio files on VLL are played via Flash Player. You can obtain most recent version of flash player from the Adobe Flashplayer website. [Link opens in new window.]
