Wondering how you can apply your language study? The links for each language (at left) list scholarships, study abroad, and, of course, numerous language learning opportunities.

Keys to Success

1) Come to class with a question, a dialogue, or text; use your classmates, tutors, and others for daily practice.
2) Do something in (not just with) the language everyday; reflect (in your portfolio) what you've learned and how you've learned it.
3) Get familiar with the resources at Yamada.
4) Get lots of input (see a film or watch the news once a week.)
5) Pay attention to meaning more than form (focus on understanding, rather than memorizing.)

Out-of-Class Practice

Out-of-class communication is possible through YLC's virtual language lab, chat programs, and your Blackboard course web site. YLC's Language Exchange may help you find a conversation partner; activities sponsored by the ISA (such as the weekly coffee hour) and OIP are good ways of meeting international students at UO and getting exposed to many different cultures.
