Study Abroad

The American Institute of Iranian Studies offers ten two-month fellowships for advanced language study in Tehran available for Summer, Fall or Winter language training sessions at the Dehkhoda Institute for graduate students in the humanities or social sciences who have an approved research topic requiring the use of Persian. Applicants must have completed a full academic year of Persian.

Internships

MERIP (Middle East Research and Information Project) has fall, spring and summer internships for the magazine Middle East Report. http://www.merip.org/misc/internships.html.


The National Security Archive (an independent, non-profit research institute and library) offers on-site internships to students interested in U.S. foreign policy and international affairs. Iran is currently an area of focus. http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/nsa/archive/intern.html.


Programs in the U.S.

The Monterey Institute of International Studies has added elementary Farsi to its SILP (Summer Intensive Language Program) http://www.miis.edu/lang-ilp-langs-farsi.html.


San Diego State University’s LARC (Language Acquisition Resource Center) and Center for the Advancement of Distinguished Language Proficiency are offering a month-long summer program (on site) for more advanced students of Farsi. Full and partial stipends are available for this program and for continued study in Tehran. http://larcnet.sdsu.edu.


The Middle East Institute (MEI) in Washington D.C. has multi-level courses in Farsi. http://www.mideasti.org/programs/programs_studies.html.

Miscellaneous

The Middle East Institute (MEI) works to promote understanding between people of different Middle Eastern countries and between the Middle East and America in part by publishing The Middle East Journal, teaching classes, and working with other like-minded organizations. http://www.mideasti.org/.
