YLC Facilities

Front Desk The Yamada Language Center has a broad range of resources available for language instruction. Our knowledgeable staff can help you with study materials--dictionaries, instructional books, tapes, CDs, and DVDs--and with online materials. Our technology-friendly facilities (wireless access in every classroom) in Pacific Hall include:

Four Media-Rich Classrooms - Pacific 110, 111, 115 and 119 all have audio and video capability and are  Internet-ready, giving instructors the ability to make computer- and Internet-based classroom presentations.

The Shelley L. Keithan Student Lounge (Rm 122) -
This small group and seminar room is a place where students can meet to study, read foreign language publications, and watch international TV or movies. Self-study courses often meet here, and instructors and students may reserve this room for meetings.

Room Overview (Classrooms):   Room Request Form
When available, all of these rooms can be reserved by instructors for class use or special meetings. Please submit your request AT LEAST three (3) days before the date you need it!

A Computer Lab - The 21-station Macintosh computer lab has large screen projection, full Internet access, and multilingual software. The staff are trained to work with groups using the lab for class projects and to assist individual students in using the multilingual software. The lab is located in Pacific Hall, room 113.

Two AV rooms - Pacific 119 is a 36-station Sony 9000 lab with a large screen for video or computer classroom presentations. 18 wireless laptops make it a good room for writing classes.
Pacific 120 (no reservations required) has 24 computer, audio and video study workstations for independent work. As in Pacific 113, all the computers are configured for multilingual work.

A la carte - The Yamada Language Center has camcorders, digital cameras, and cassette/CD/iPod players that students and faculty can check out.  For classroom use or for presentations in Pacific we also have a mobile multimedia station, which gives the user video projector capability for a Mac, PC, VCR, or DVD player.

Computer Network Hub - Pacific 114B is the home of all of Yamada's web servers and the Virtual Language Lab. The servers support databases and websites for language departments and the Yamada Language Center's own Internet outreach efforts. The Yamada web server located here receives over 150,000 hits a day.
